On Monday, 22 September 2026, the Jaipur Development Authority's newly built U-turn on Hare Krishna Marg, on Mahal Road in Jagatpura, failed on its very first day of operation. A large container vehicle got stuck while negotiating the turn and damaged a boundary wall in the process, on a stretch JDA had just opened to let traffic move without stopping at repeated signals.
JDA had deployed eight engineers, eight officials and 60 guards working in two shifts to manage traffic at the new U-turn on its opening day — a scale of staffing that itself signalled how untested the design was in real conditions. Vehicle speeds dropped sharply as drivers tried to navigate the curve, several drivers went the wrong way around it, pedestrians and stray animals wandered into the turning area, and there was not enough room for larger or slower vehicles to be overtaken safely — all of which came to a head when the container became lodged and struck a wall. JDA's pre-launch trial had only involved slowly moving a hand-cart through the curve to check feasibility, which did not reflect how larger commercial vehicles would actually behave at the site. The project's engineering was led by Ajay Garg, Director (Engineering Branch), and Surendra Panwar, Executive Engineer for the U-turn project. No official response addressing the wall damage or a redesign of the U-turn had been reported at the time of writing.
For residents and commuters using Mahal Road and Hare Krishna Marg, the immediate effect was exactly what the scheme was meant to prevent: slower, more congested and less predictable traffic on day one, plus damage to private or public property at the site. A traffic scheme that needs 60 guards to function safely on its first day is not yet fit to run unattended, and until JDA either widens the curve, adds clear signage and lane markings, or reworks the design, drivers — especially those in larger vehicles — should approach this U-turn with caution and expect continued disruption.
If you notice a JDA or Nagar Nigam traffic scheme, drain, or road project in your area that isn't working as promised, you can raise it through JDA's public grievance cell or the Jaipur Smart City / Nagar Nigam complaint portal, quoting the exact location and date — documented complaints are what eventually push these fixes through. Haqdar will track this story and report if JDA modifies the design or responds to the incident.
