The Rajasthan High Court has directed the Jaipur Development Authority to clear about 310 encroachments along the roughly 6-kilometre road running from 22 Godam (near the railway line) to B-2 Bypass, passing through Mahesh Nagar Gate and Gopalpura Bypass. The order was passed on a public interest petition filed by Sitaram Devanda and others, heard by a bench of Justices Indrajeet Singh and Sandeep Taneja, along with connected contempt and miscellaneous petitions.
The road varies in sanctioned width along its length — about 40 feet from 22 Godam Railway Station to Mahesh Nagar Gate, 60 feet from Mahesh Nagar Gate to Gopalpura Bypass, and 80 feet from Gopalpura Bypass to B-2 Bypass. JDA's own counsel submitted a list of 310 encroachments along this stretch to the court. The bench has directed JDA to issue a 15-day notice to every affected occupant — whether a private individual or another statutory authority — and give each a hearing before taking removal action, rather than proceeding directly to demolition. The court also noted that railway authorities have encroached on parts of this stretch and has barred civil courts from entertaining fresh suits or appeals on this matter while its order is in force.
JDA has been given three months from the order to complete the exercise, and its secretary must file a compliance report with the court; the matter is next listed for hearing on 25 November 2026. This is one of several ongoing court-driven encroachment drives on Jaipur's arterial roads, and JDA's enforcement wing has cleared encroachments on other stretches in recent months using a similar notice-then-demolition process.
If you own, rent or run a business anywhere along this corridor — from 22 Godam through Mahesh Nagar Gate, Gopalpura Bypass to B-2 Bypass — you are entitled to a written 15-day notice and a hearing before any structure of yours is touched, even if your occupation goes back years. A notice is not automatically a final order: attending the hearing and presenting your ownership or tenancy documents is the way to contest inclusion on the list, or to establish that your structure falls outside the surveyed road width.
Haqdar can help you check whether your property falls within this road's sanctioned width, and if you receive a notice, help you understand what documents to bring to the hearing.
